SONG FOR EWE
with DUANE DENISON of THE JESUS LIZARD
“SONG FOR EWE” is a feature where artists beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day.
The inaugural guest is a real guitar hero of mine –
DUANE DENISON of THE JESUS LIZARD
When I bought “Puss” their split single with Nirvana in 1993, it introduced me to a whole new world of alternative music – where it was ok to rock really hard without back combed hair.
I went onto buy all their records including the imperious “Goat” album and what can only be described as a shower curtain containing all their 7″s released for RSD. Last year I interviewed Duane, David Wm. Sims and Mac McNeilly for an anniversary feature on their last album for Touch & Go Records “Down” and I’ve kept in touch with Duane since. As well as playing in the Denison Kimball Trio, Tomahawk, The Unsemble and most recently backing up new artist Laura J Martin in Nashville, you can also book him as your guitar teacher.
Over to Duane:
“Well hello Nick!
I’d be honored to kick off your “Song for Ewe” feature. I’ve already consumed a bit of music today, so let’s see….
I heard “We’re all in Love” by the New York Dolls this morning on the radio in my car. I was driving my daughter to school, so it was the early morning rush hour. I love David Johansen’s voice,Thunder’s guitar, all that. When he hit the line “They go to work, we go to play” it made us both laugh out loud.”
Thanks to Duane Denison.
