“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guest is a killer drummer from a band originally formed as an all-female tribute to The Ramones. Called The Ramonas they are way more than a covers band, they’re an exciting live whirlwind that makes you want a Gabba Gabba Hey Hoedown.

As well as filling a giant void where Joey et al have sadly departed, they’re also writing and recording their own material which is well worth a listen. I always wanted them to play Velvet Sheep when we played as a garage rock club night at the Whitechapel Gallery, but the venue stopped doing live music and I couldn’t find anywhere to cut it, but one day, one day…in the meantime, welcome to the pages of VS, Cammy Ramona aka Camille Phillips!

As well as their originals EP ‘You Asked For It’, The Ramonas are also recording an album this summer of their own material and recently started a Euro Tour.

But what did Camille choose as her “song for ewe”, ready – 1,2,3,4…

“Albert Cavalier – Wasted and Stoned

A song I’ve been listening to a lot recently is by a band called Albert Cavalier that I met in Logrono when on tour with the Ramonas in Spain last year.

The song is called Wasted and Stoned. I love the crazy manic, driving drums and reckless fuzzy guitar tones that seem to draw inspiration from a combination of 90’s grunge and 70’s psychedelic vibes. It’s played with such raw energy and aggression and yet has a really uplifting feel to it and an insanely hooky chorus. Also the video is pretty obscure within the theme of this feature haha!”

“You Asked For It” EP is available on iTunes, Spotify and for physical purchase on The Ramonas website www.ramonas.co.uk.
