FLISS KITSON of NIGHTINGALES – Song For Ewe

“SONG FOR EWE”
with FLISS KITSON of
NIGHTINGALES

“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guest the third in a series this week of members of the misfits’ misfits and Midlands snotty heroes,  the Nightingales. Forget your January blues, a brand new EP called “Become Not Becoming” by said Nightingales (Velvet Sheep favourites), is hurtling your way this Friday 27th January.

She’s the first ever person on Velvet Sheep fanzine to have chosen two “songs for ewe” and it’s fair to say she’s an absolute hero to us here. An increasingly vital foil to band leader Robert Lloyd’s call and response cut & thrust, she’s truly the yang and the wang-dang-doodle of one of my favourite bands, it’s the effervescent and ever-visceral Fliss Kitson!

“Become Not Becoming” is out this Friday 27 January on Tiny Global Productions

In case you missed Fliss’s “song for ewe” in 2014, here it is – an ace selection by the Helmut Zacharias Orchestra…

FLISS KITSON of THE NIGHTINGALES (VELVET SHEEP’S ALBUM OF YEAR #1) – Song For Ewe

But what did Fliss choose as her (historical, unprecented second) “song for ewe”…it’s…

“Toxic Shock – Remote Control
I’ve been trying to collect the ‘Vindaloo Records’ catalogue for a fair few years now but only just got my hands on a decent copy of Toxic Shock EP…. I’d never heard of them before, only Robert raving about them. Two girls with a saxophone and bass… a whirlwind of sound fluttering around with the most haunting voices. I am hooked.”

CHEERS FLISS AND SEAN FROM MUTANTE. COME BACK TOMORROW FOR THE NEXT IN OUR EXCLUSIVE GALES “SONG FOR EWE” SERIES.
