“SONG FOR EWE”
with CHRIS OLLEY of
SIX BY SEVEN
“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guest has featured on these pages recently choosing an aptly named “Lucky 7” but he’s given us double bang for our figurative buck. The leader of Nottingham motorik noise mongers Six By Seven, he is a restless driving force, he eats vinyl becomes vinyl junkie and is back to spread his considerable musical font into your bonce, reinvigorated after the last ever (or are they?) gigs by his band in Nottingham and at The Garage. Welcome back to VS, Chris Olley!
If you were there, or even more so if like me you missed it, you can get one of these handsome T-shirts at Chris’ blog, here.
Here’s some quick clippage of Six By Seven in the eye of a 90s storm…
And here’s Chris in action of a more recent vintage.
Chris and the band chose a fantastic Lucky 7 including some corkers from VS favs Wooden Shjips, Spacemen 3 and John Carpenter…here’s our Graham with a quick reminder as Miss Cilla Black might have said.
But what did Chris choose as a “song for ewe” – hey stop looking ahead, wait for it, wait for it…ok here goes…it’s…
“Caverns of Antimatter – “Tardis Cymbals”
So obscure in fact that it’s not on YouTube so you have to listen to this one instead. “Tardis Cymbals” is something I keep listening to at the moment though, it’s really well done neo Krautrock by the modern master Tim Gane from Stereolab.”
THAT GETS THE BIG FUMBS UP FROM US! LOVE A BIT OF CAVERNS OF ANTIMATTER, ALSO FEATURING THE ACE EX FAITH HEALER JOE DILWORTH. here’s a quick extra treat, the “song for ewe” from Roxanne Stephen of Th’Faith Healers…
and in case you missed it recently, the Lucky 7 by Morgan Lhote ex of Stereolab…(now Hologram Teen)
A BIG CHEERS TO CHRIS OLLEY AND LUCY HURST OF BUT I LIKE YOU PR
