EXCLUSIVE MIX – V.S. VERSUS The Sons of Silence
It’s the next installment in a series of exclusive mixes which pitch Velvet Sheep versus some of our favourite musical compadres…
Stepping into the ring for this clash are esoteric electronica eccentrics Sons of Silence.
Dan Mudford from the band was a fellow MTV producer in the mid-to late 90s and while making MTV Europe’s Alternative Nation with Toby Amies I often played the Sons of Silence video for “Silence Go Boom!”.
Mudford’s day job involved making movie specials. Funny then when it transpired that his night times involved making special music for movies. After the Sons’ music was featured in the soundtrack to Edgar Wright’s cult hit series “Spaced”, Mudford and co-composer Pete Woodhead were invited to score now legendary zom-com “Shaun of the Dead”.
With the soundtrack about to be released for the first time on vinyl (red and transparent no less) and with sleeve notes from Wright, it seemed the right time to ask my old mucker Mudford to contribute a suitably eclectic mix to the resurrected Velvet Sheep.
I asked Dan to give us a little intro of what to expect:
“OK, it’s a selection of hits, live version recordings incl. some of Shaun Of The Dead performed Live, re-jigs and unreleased things we found down the back of our huge sofa.
A snoop around a Lounge packed full of strange objects, musical toys and one or two suspicious looking stuffed animals. More of a trawl through the wireless airwaves than a Mix, you might find yourself wanting to dance at times, but mind those hips. These beats are bumpy.”
Time to go BOOM!
