“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guests have just released their second record “Musica Alla Puttanesca” on Trashmouth Records and it rules (no mean feat since the first s/t album was already at the sharp end of my old pals the Quietus’ album of the year list in ’17). The agreeably moody promo pic above is pretty spesh too including a hoop ear-ring that at first glance looks like the pic is buffering!

Gothic like The Damned, garage louche like The Cramps, sardonic & whip smart like Vivien Goldman seismic like Babes In Toyland and full of Eastern promise/menace like the Fat White Family, they’ve come from a fecund South London scene that includes the aforementioned Fat Whites, VS favs Meatraffle, The Moonlandingz & No Friendz, choosing a tune each, welcome to Velvet Sheep, hot off the heels of playing the William’s Green stage at Glastonbury, it’s the aces Madonnatron!

Check out “Goodnight Little Empire” a cracking supremely catchy track getting plenty of airplay from Lauren Laverne, Marc Riley & Gideon Coe on 6Music at the mo…

As timeless as a Pre-Raphaelite painting, as contemporary as Cold War Steve, “Musica Alla Puttanesca” is Madonnatron’s very own “Phantasmagoria”…

Madonnatron are Beth, Stefania, Joanie & Charlie and they’ve chosen a killer tune each, so without further ado here are their “songs for ewe”…

Beth: I chose Jack Medley as he is a genius and was a very close friend of ours, our biggest champion and we lost him far too soon at the beginning of May – everyone needs to know about Jack! The whole album is great.

A group of us have set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money to get his album and a 7″ of Lose It pressed onto vinyl this year –

Charlotte – Love Song by The Passions

Joanie- Utopia by Goldfrapp

Stefania- (It’s all over now) Baby Blue by 13th floor Elevators

in honour of Jack Medley, RIP (and of course Roky)

Madonnatron are playing the following:

03.07.19 – Supersonic – PARIS
04.07.19 – Le Chaff – BRUSSELS
