“SONG FOR EWE”
with UNCLE BUTCHER
“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day.
Today’s guest is a Brazilian garage firebrand, one half of The Jam Messengers with his pal Rob K, 100% of Uncle Butcher And His One Man Band. After being introduced to his genius by my second city brothers Birmingham’s ColdRice collective, I’d oft wanted to put him on at the Velvet Sheep nights at the Whitechapel Gallery back in the noughties, but I’m chuffed I’ve managed to get him on the pages of the revitalized Velvet Sheep zine. He’s also made some noise with Thee Butchers Orchestra and The Royal Ass Shakers. If you can’t Standell the heat get out of the kitchen, it’s Marco Butcher a.k.a Uncle Butcher!
Marco – seen above with an ace split with my main men Black Mekon (whose leader Stevie penned the awesome pic of Marco at the head of the feature), gave me his “song for ewe” choice a while ago, but since it’s been a hot minute between getting it and sticking it on here, I asked him for a quick catch-up on his raucous activities to which I got this characteristically enthusiastic retort:
“Hey Nick cool to hear from ya my man! YEAH i do have a new single going on if ya up for checking it!”
So please do him the pleasure of lending this your lugs…
Prodigious punk and prolific producer Marco has gone for a choice from an album that he produced, but who can blame him – this band is a hidden treasure of garage high-jinx, so without further ado, it’s over to Uncle Butcher with his “song for ewe”…
“Human Trash are a trash trio from Sao Paulo, Brasil also known as the concrete jungle!
Human Trash bring Sister Mari and Sister Mayra sharing the guitars and vocals, a mix between no wave and garage punk.
Luis takes care of the drum kit which in fact is a mix out of trash cans and real drum parts.
“Trash Talk” is one of my fav songs from their first album and features sister Mari and Mr Rob K (Workdogs, Jam Messengers) sharing the words and showing a little bit of punk attitude to create this insane dialogue: a trash boogie for dancers and gamblers!!”
