“SONG FOR EWE”
with KHODARA

Khodara photograph by David Miller.“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guest is a New York City born but London based singer who released a fantastic EP called “Where’s The Love?” last December, with a video that you can’t take your eyes off. If you can’t get no sass-ifaction, you should definitely give it a whirl. The best dancing in a video since Black Keys “Lonely Boy”.

She reminds me of Cyndi Lauper at her peak, with the pop hooks of the oft-underlooked (except by Yeasayer) Laura Brannigan and disco queen Donna Summer, and an electro underlay that could have been on Depeche Mode’s most recent (until the new one) “Ultra” album. She’s like Lana del Rey with the edge but not the misery. She could be as big as Madonna (there’s definite inflexions of “Papa Don’t Preach” herein). But before she crosses that Borderline, she’s here on Velvet Sheep to choose her “song for ewe”…introducing Khodara!

Khodara’s dancing pard’ner is Mickey Boardman, editorial director & columnist of PAPER magazine and apparently “one of the most photographed men in New York”. Top moves!

Khodara has a new EP coming up out on 17th March, and it’s called “Billie”. It’s way more reflective like Romy from The XX or Flaming Lips collaborators Phantogram, a different facet to a soon to be universally unearthed diamond. It’s pure and it’s about a woman overcoming fear, which couldn’t be more timely.

From one artiste to look out for, to another tip, without further ado, it’s over to Khodara for her “song for ewe”..

“Grammar – ‘Michigan’

Dreamy and uplifting sounds pair with a swirling synth on new artist Grammar’s song ‘Michigan’. This funky, yet delicate tune transports you to a peaceful dreamland where nothing but unicorns and ice cream sundaes exist.

Perfect for subway riding, ‘Michigan’ makes you sway in your seat and relax while making you think of a summer day, even if it’s subzero out! Big things coming for Grammar! <3

No video out there, but listen with a weird picture background on YouTube”
