“SONG FOR EWE”
with MARK ROBINSON of
TEENBEAT RECORDS & UNREST
“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today’s guest is an indie rocker that I admired very much in the 90s when he formed the band Unrest. He also had a fantastic and uber cool label from Washington DC called TeenBeat, and I harboured a great comp from them including bands like Autoclave, Circus Lupus, Courtney Love (band not the person) and the Teenage Gang Debs. They also put out records by great artistes and outfits like Andrew Beaujon of Eggs, Gastr Del Sol (David Grubbs band) and Velocity Girl. Also of the ace Air Miami (as interviewed by the original paper VS zine) and later other bands Flin Flon, Grenadine and Cotton Candy with his wife Evelyn Hurley of Blast Off Country Style, welcome back to Velvet Sheep, Mr. Mark Robinson!
Earlier in the year, the “song for ewe” with Bridget Cross, Mark’s Unrest bandmate was very well received…
…so I’m hoping for the same from Mark’s choice, and it’s a beaut…so without further ado, over to Mr. Robinson…
“THE UNITS “Cowboy”
A go-to hit. Best in the afternoon when I spend my time concentrating. This gem reminds me of a soundtrack to an early 1970s dystopian science fiction film not to mention the early Human League demonstration recordings. On the 415 record label and the closer on their Digital Stimulation album.”
