“SONG FOR EWE” is the feature where artists & music people beloved by VELVET SHEEP choose an obscure song they’ve been listening to that day. Today is the day literally, for Today Is The Day‘s band leader. TITD was a band I first got into through their song “Bent Scared” on the Amphetamine Reptile 1993 sampler I was chatting about here only yesterday with Haze XXL’s “song for ewe” choice…

THOMAS HAZELMYER A.K.A. HAZE XXL from AMPHETAMINE REPTILE RECORDS – Song For Ewe

The band have just signed to The End Records for a new album and reissue programme and in time to celebrate 25 years of raging hard, starting with next year’s vinyl reissue of “Temple of the Morning Star”. Although I’ve been extremely tardy at sitting in his song choice for a while, it seems serendipitously timely to unleash on the resurgent Velvet Sheep, Mr. Steve Austin!

I last interviewed Steve for The Quietus, a couple of years back circa the album “Animal Mother”…which you can read here. He’s a man of few words, carefully chosen, but always sincerely meant, so I was expecting both a great choice without tons of explanation. Steve didn’t disappoint…here’s his “song for ewe”…

“Angel Eyes – Frank Sinatra
Cool smoky vibe. The words are wicked.”

CHEERS STEVE.
